NARRATOR: This Indiana Bicentennial minute is made possible by the Indiana Historical Society and the law firm of Krieg DeVault.

PAULEY: Celebrating its centennial in 1916, Indiana created the Indiana State Park system led by Indianapolis businessman Colonel Richard Lieber.

Images of different Indiana State Parks are shown.

PAULEY: McCormick’s Creek and Turkey Run were first and Indiana would eventually have 32 state parks and lakes. Brown County, Clifty Falls, Indiana Dunes, Pokagon, Versailles, Spring Mill Shade State Park and many more evoke memories for countless Hoosier families.

More images of Indiana State parks with waterfalls, water and forests are shown.

PAULEY: Adding to the history is the rustic design and craftsmanship of the Civil Conservation Corps structure built during the Great Depression offering quiet respite, rugged terrain and majestic views, our state parks give all Hoosiers a chance to see how Indiana was 200 years ago. I’m Jane Pauley.
