We'd love to have you

History should not be viewed – it should be experienced. You can help people make a real connection with the past by volunteering at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. From interacting with our guests to working with our historic collections, IHS has a volunteer opportunity that’s right for you.

Upcoming volunteer needs:

Festival of Trees (more details coming soon)

National History Day Indiana 2020– NHDI is an educational program that encourages learners in grades four through 12 to explore history that interests them. Learners express their creativity and historical analysis through performances, documentaries, websites, papers and exhibits.

NHDI Volunteer Judges

  • Do not need prior knowledge of specific historical topics
  • Will be required from 8 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. the day of the contest
  • Will discuss projects with learners and write thoughtful feedback
  • Will influence which projects will go on to state and national competitions

INVestigation Station Facilitator

Investigation Stations take place during school and group tours. The facilitator will engage students and teachers in a guided activity about primary and secondary sources.

Group Visit Volunteer

This position is responsible for greeting visiting groups and introducing students to the new experiences at Indiana Historical Society. This position will accompany groups during their visit and lead groups from location to location.

Special Events Volunteer
Greet guests, collect tickets or help with crafts and other activities at special events, workshops, lectures and performances.

Basile History Market
Lend at hand in the Basile History Market – no retail experience required.

Collections Volunteer
Get up close and personal with Indiana history while helping with library projects, including processing items into the collections.

Conservation Volunteer
Assist conservation technicians in preserving and caring for the collections.

*Collections and Conservation volunteers work on a weekly or biweekly schedule.
