NARRATOR: This Indiana Bicentennial minute is made possible by the Indiana Historical Society and the law firm of Krieg DeVault.

PAULEY: Studebaker in South Bend, the Auburn in Auburn, Stutz and Duesenberg in Indianapolis, Grand Page in Evansville, America’s front-wheel drive the Cord in Auburn in Connersville. Just some of the many automobiles manufactured in Indiana.

Black and white videos and images are shown of all the cars that were manufactured in different parts of Indiana.

PAULEY: Clessie Cummins of Columbus built diesel-powered engines. Ralph Teeter, a blind man from Hagerstown invented cruise control in 1945. Delco electronics in Kokomo was among the first to make dashboard installed radios and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway popularized rearview mirrors, seatbelts, turbocharges and continues to innovate today. The automotive history of Indiana is as long as the wheelbase of a Duesenberg model J. I’m Jane Pauley.

Images and videos are shown of various parts added to the automobile, as well as one of the first races of the Indianapolis 500.
