Indiana Historical Society Celebrates MLK Day with Free Admission on Monday, Jan. 20

January 6, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 6, 2025) — In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s service to communities, the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is celebrating community and Dr. King’s birthday with free admission as part of a daylong celebration on Monday, January 20.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests are invited to enjoy a series of themed activities and special programs in honor of MLK Day at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis. The museum is open starting at 10 a.m. and exhibits will close at 5 p.m.

Guests can follow in Dr. King’s footsteps of service as they design shopping bags for Charity Cares Clothing Closet, collaborate with others to create a community mural, or even travel back in time to experience Dr. King’s world-changing speeches in the Frank and Katrina Basile Theater. Then, visitors can take a moment to engage with the interactive Wall of Reflection – to connect to the past and inspire the future. Even the youngest of IHS visitors will be able to learn and reflect through additional activities in the W. Brooks and Wanda Y. Fortune History Lab.

In addition, guests are encouraged to continue the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by supporting local community organizations like Charity Cares Clothing Closet. If you would like to donate to Charity Cares Clothing Closet, please bring in brand-new socks or underwear (the highest needs) of all kids’ sizes or contribute with a financial donation directly to Charity Cares.

IHS’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is presented by The Charlitta and Robin Winston Family Fund for African American History. For more information about IHS’s offerings, call (317) 232-1882 or visit www.indianahistory.org.
