Indianapolis—The Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is offering free admission and several new art stations for the final year of its #BigDrawIndy event. On Saturday, Oct. 15, IHS will turn the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center into a giant art studio for #BigDrawIndy: Bicentennial Edition.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can create a still life, color select images from IHS’s collections and put individual touches on a large mural. New this year, there will be performances by Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School and live drawing from local artist Amanda Keller. Also new this year, guests can create light-up drawings in the shape of a birthday cake or a torch.
The illuminating designs are a nod to Indiana’s 200th birthday celebrations, including Hoosier Homecoming, which coincides with #BigDrawIndy and takes place a short one-block walk from the History Center. Hoosier Homecoming is a signature Bicentennial celebration featuring the dedication of Bicentennial Plaza and the culmination of the Bicentennial Torch Relay.
Guests to #BigDrawIndy can also take advantage of free admission by visiting the History Center’s newest exhibitions. The Hoosier Hardwood Photo Project: A Journey to Indiana’s Historic High School Gyms celebrates Indiana’s passion for high school basketball, while You Are There: Eli Lilly at the Beginning takes visitors back in time to Colonel Lilly’s first Indianapolis laboratory.
