Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Free Admission

Admission is free on MLK Day, but reserving tickets in advance is encouraged.

Join us for a day of reflection, creativity, and community connection. Participate in a hands-on service project designing bags for the Concord Neighborhood Center, and explore our Wall of Reflection honoring Dr. King’s legacy. Families can enjoy meaningful crafts inspired by themes of peace, unity, and community. Don’t miss a special presentation by Susan Hall Dotson, “Dr. King’s Visits to Indiana,” celebrating the profound impact of his time in our state. Visitors are invited to bring in donations to support HVAF (Helping Veterans And Families) of Indiana.

Crafts, activities, and a reflection station will be available from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Museum exhibits open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Design a canvas bag for Concord Neighborhood Center
  • Create artwork of the world to share how you can make the world a better place
  • Paint your own MLK Silhouette to remind yourself of his guiding principals
  • Donate items to Veterans and their families that will become care packages by HVAF of Indiana
  • Reflect on famous speeches and quotes of Dr. King’s as we connect them to our lives and out communities
  • Enjoy stories sensory bin, and other hands-on activities in the W. Brooks and Wanda Y. Fortune History Lab on the second floor
  • Attend the 1 p.m. presentation by Susan Hall Dotson: Dr. King’s Visits to Indiana (approximately 40 minutes with a brief Q&A to follow)
  • Join the 3 p.m. presentation by Nichelle M. Hayes: MLK’s Stance on Vietnam and Poverty (approximately 1 hour total)

IHS’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is presented by The Charlitta and Robin Winston Family Fund for African American History.

Wondering what to donate?  HVAF’s pantry is available to any veteran in need of emergency food, gently used clothing, and other personal items. Suggestions are listed below:
