Huddle Up: A Boozy Thowback through Indy Sports History

We’ve teamed up once again with Indiana Humanities to put on the annual historic bar crawl!

From the Colts’ Super Bowl victory in 2007 to the Pacers’ NBA Finals run in 2000, many highlight-reel moments dot the sports history of Indianapolis. In that same champagne-spraying spirit, we want to take you on a tour of some important sports backstories and lesser-known moments from the city’s locker rooms, gymnasiums and yellowed scrapbooks.

On Wednesday, July 24, Indiana Humanities’ annual historic “bar” crawl returns. This year’s theme, Huddle Up: A Boozy Throwback Through Indy Sports History, races through a century of Circle City sports, with plenty of drinks to keep you and your teammates hydrated. Along the way, you’ll witness Hoosiers on and off the court battling for Title IX, see the spot where Major Taylor first performed cycling tricks before earning worldwide fame, and learn other surprising stories from Indianapolis athletics history.

Attendees will visit six locations (some bars, some surprise locations) in downtown Indianapolis, enjoying Sun King Beers, signature cocktails and themed snacks; at each stop, Indiana Historical Society actors will bring the past to life. So grab your tracksuit, lace up your sneakers and get in the game by purchasing your tickets today!

$60. Includes Sun King Brewing Company beer and food at five locations, plus pre-party and a special treat to send you on your way. Wine and signature cocktails will also be available. 21 years and older please.

The starting line is The Union 525 (an email with specific parking instructions will be sent closer to the event). After a brief pre-party (along with a complimentary drink and food to whet your appetite), you’ll be split into teams and follow a pre-determined route of five locations with five historic scenes before ending up back at The Union 525.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • You must be 21 to attend
  • Wear comfortable shoes! You will be walking to each stop, around 1.5 miles in total. Chuck Taylors, cleats, running shoes–you’ve got lots of options to keep it thematically on point.
  • Each stop features a choice of Sun King beer or wine, with at least one signature cocktail along the route. Snacks are also provided at each stop.
  • Space is limited so advance registration is required. If all tickets are claimed, you will automatically be added to the waitlist and be notified if tickets should become available.
  • A full refund may be requested up to 72 hours in advance.

The Indiana Humanities Historic Bar Crawl is presented in partnership with Indiana Historical Society, Visit Indy, Indiana Sports Corp, and Sun King Brewing Company. Other in-kind partners include Helium Comedy Club, Union 525, Launch Indy, Brothers Bar and Grill, Gate 10 Events and HandleBar Indy.
