Holiday Cheers – Lights & Latkes

Gather your family to learn about the Jewish festival of lights with a special Hanukkah kit to accompany our Lights & Latkes live event on Dec. 10.

The kit includes a menorah and markers to decorate your home, one box of candles to last the entire holiday, a dreidel, one bag of gelt (chocolate coins), a recipe to make your own latkes (potato pancakes), and access to a virtual on-demand instructional video (video available by Dec. 11).

Even if you miss the live event, you can still order the activity kits and watch the instructional video at your convenience.

LIVE EVENT on DECEMBER 10 :$25 | $20 members. Ticket includes online program and one activity kit. Additional kits available for purchase at $10 each. Kits can be picked up at the Indiana Historical Society December or mailed for an additional $10 per kit.

KIT + ON DEMAND VIDEO: $20 | $15 Members. Additional Kits available for $10 each. Shipping available for $10/kit, if ordered by Dec. 15.

Kits can be picked up during special times at the Indiana Historical Society, including: December 11 from 4-8 p.m.; December 12 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; December 15 from 3-5 p.m.; December 19 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; and December 23 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

What age is this program best for?

We think that kids of all ages will enjoy this program, but it was designed with families ages 4 to 12 in mind.

What is included in my kit?

Holiday Cheers tickets do not include admission to Festival of Trees at the Indiana Historical Society. If you’d like to visit the exhibition during operating hours, you will need to purchase an advance admission ticket. 

How do I safely receive get my kit?

You have two options to get your kit, which you can select upon purchase:

  • Pick-up your kit in the Welcome Center at the Indiana Historical Society (450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis) on the following dates. [Masks are required while in building]
    • December 11 from 4-8 p.m.
    • December 12 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
    • December 15 from 3-5 p.m.
    • December 19 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
    • December 23 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Have your kit mailed for additional $10 per kit. Kits will be mailed by December 5.

What additional materials are needed to complete the program?

Nearly everything is included with your kit, with the exception of ingredients for lakes (potato pancakes). We will mark what isn’t included in your instruction booklet. You may need to provide your own scissors or find additional decorating materials from around your house.

Do I need one kit for each child in my family?

Each kit includes materials for one of each craft. Families can work alone or as a group, whichever works best. You may opt to purchase additional kits during registration.
