Legacy and Legend; The History and Mythology of Basketball in Indiana

Program Included with Admission.

Basketball really had its origin in Indiana, which remains the center of the sport.” – Doctor James Naismith, inventor of the game of basketball

Grab your ticket for a courtside seat in the history of Hoosier hoops with historian and author J. Ronald Newlin. From basketball’s earliest origins to the golden age of the 1950s and 1960s and beyond, “Legacy and Legend” explores why the game has been a love affair of legends for Indiana for so long. Whether you prefer high school hoops, college or pro ball, men’s or women’s, or heroic players or teams from small or big towns, there are stories and memories just for you. Stay after the author talk to get your copy of “Legacy and Legend” signed by Newlin.

Copies of “Legacy and Legend” can be purchased in-store or online from the Basile History Market.

J. Ronald Newlin, from Sullivan, Huntingburg, Westport, Akron, Muncie, Bloomington, New Castle, and Indianapolis, Indiana, was the first executive director of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, serving from 1987 to 1995. He has degrees in U.S. history from Ball State University and Indiana University, Bloomington. Newlin spent his career as a museum professional and nonprofit management consultant in Indiana, working for the Indiana State Museum and the ISM Foundation, and for the Indiana State Library and Indiana Historical Society.
