Get Free Admission at the Indiana Historical Society for Independence Day Celebration
On Tuesday, July 4, the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is celebrating Independence Day with a day of fun and free admission!
IHS invites guests to the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 for crafts and activities that explore themes related to our country’s founding.
Attendees are encouraged to share stories of their own celebrations and what it means to be a U.S. citizen. Guests will learn about the history of Independence Day and explore Indiana history through the Indiana Experience.
Admission to the History Center is free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crafts and activities including creating your own Bill of Rights, pipe cleaner fireworks and the Indiana Scrambled Counties Game will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Guests can also explore the following IHS exhibits:
- Chuck Taylor All Star: This exhibit explores the story of the man, Charles Hollis Taylor — better known as “Chuck” Taylor — and his iconic Converse All Star shoe through a variety of immersive experiences and remarkable artifacts and images, some of which have never been exhibited before.
- Documents That Shaped America: This exhibit features an impressive collection of early editions of some of the most important manuscripts in American history, including a first edition printing (1788) of the U.S. Constitution (one of five known copies), a first edition of the Gettysburg Address, and an early edition of Life & Times of Frederick Douglass (1893).
- Eva Kor from Auschwitz to Indiana: In this exhibit, learn the remarkable story of Eva Mozes Kor, who survived Auschwitz as a child and the experiments of Dr. Joseph Mengele, and grew up to be one of the most influential Holocaust educators and activists in the world.
- Rivers, Rails and Roads: The exhibit showcases sketches, photographs and maps to illustrate the changes in transportation over time as well as first-person texts and oral histories that explain what it was like to use and work for various modes of transportation.
Free admission tickets for IHS’s Independence Day Celebration can be reserved here: https://rb.gy/uhjpb. In addition, Red Bull will be joining the festivities and giving out samples during the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
