Indiana Historical Society Celebrates MLK Day with Free Admission on Monday, Jan. 15

January 3, 2024

In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s service to communities, the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is celebrating community and Dr. King’s birthday through music and story as part of a daylong celebration on Monday, January 15.

Guests are invited to enjoy free admission and special programs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis. Special programming concludes at 4 p.m., but IHS exhibits remain open until 5 p.m.

On January 15, spend the day at IHS and be inspired to be your best self by focusing on service to one another and our communities. Be uplifted and encouraged by storytelling and music, add your own commitment to “Be the Change” to a growing mural, and reflect on all the big and little things you can do to improve the world around you.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • 10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Activities and donations
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m.: Storytime
  • 2-4 p.m.: Concert with Keisha Ballinger and the University United Methodist Church Praise Team

In addition, guests are encouraged to continue the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by supporting local community organizations like Charity Cares Clothing Closet. If you would like to donate to Charity Cares Clothing Closet, please bring in brand-new socks or underwear of all kids sizes or contribute with a financial donation directly to Charity Cares.

IHS’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is presented by The Charlitta and Robin Winston Family Fund for African American History with support from Charity Cares and University United Methodist Church. For more information about IHS’s offerings, call (317) 232-1882 or visit www.indianahistory.org.
