Finalists Announced for National History Day in Indiana North Region Contest

April 12, 2021

INDIANAPOLIS (March 31, 2021) — The Indiana Historical Society (IHS) proudly announces students have been selected to advance to the National History Day in Indiana (NHDI) State Contest after the successful Indiana North Region Contest on Saturday, March 27. The contest included students from Kosciusko, Whitley, St. Joseph, Allen, Marion, DeKalb, Perry, Marshall and Monroe counties.

As part of IHS’s commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of its visitors, guests, volunteers and staff members, the Central region contest was converted to a virtual format to allow students to compete. Saturday’s contest included 197 student participants, and while students were not interviewed, 48 volunteer judges digitally provided feedback on all exhibits, documentaries, performances, websites and papers.

The National History Day in Indiana State Contest will also move to a virtual format. More details will be released regarding this format soon.

NHDI is a year-long program dedicated to enhancing history education in Indiana’s schools. Students in grades four through 12 explore a historical subject that fits under the annual theme. This year’s theme is “Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.” Students use their research to work individually or in a group to create a documentary, exhibit, paper (individual only), performance or website.

National History Day in Indiana is presented by the Rooker Family Foundation and is supported by TCU Foundation and the Vigran Family Foundation. The State Contest is supported by DNR – Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology.
