Of the People – A Concert for America at 250

at the Historic Eleutherian College in Madison, Ind.

Performance by: Visions Jazz Ensemble

Location Event Details:

August 2, 2026
3 to 4:30 p.m.
Historic Eleutherian College in Madison, Ind.

In honor of the United States Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) in 2026, the Indiana Historical Society is presenting a series of community performances across the state featuring Visions Jazz Ensemble and their program, Of the People. This jazz concert series celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and reflects on the shared cultural spirit of the American people through music.

Visions Jazz Ensemble is a group of accomplished young musicians, all graduates of Indiana University, who will perform jazz interpretations of 12 well-known songs that embody American identity and experience. The repertoire spans a wide range of musical traditions, including classical, folk, pop, patriotic, and spiritual works.

The decision to present these works as jazz arrangements reflects jazz’s status as a uniquely American musical art form and acknowledges Indiana’s significant role in its development and preservation. Through Of the People, IHS is partnering with community performance venues statewide for this meaningful cultural experience that honors America’s past while celebrating its enduring creativity and diversity.
