Ain’t I A Woman? The Evolution of Women in Politics

Come to the table! Through conversation over dinner we will explore the incomplete legacy of the women’s suffrage movement in an effort to build bridges, see new perspectives and find a path forward.

The passage of the 19th Amendment, which prohibits the government from denying the right to vote based on sex, was a revolutionary moment in American history. However, the suffrage movement was segregated and not all women were enfranchised. The evolution of the feminist movement has continued to focus on issues most important to white women, without reflecting the needs of women of color. This event has been designed for a diverse, multi-generational audience interested in discussing the segregated suffrage movement and exploring the impact of its legacy on women’s political cooperation and unity today.

The event will begin with a choral performance by the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus followed by remarks from author and CICF Vice President of Community Leadership & Effective Philanthropy, Tamara Winfrey Harris. Attendees will then break for a facilitated conversation over a shared meal.

Parking is available on the north side of the building and on the street. The event will begin in the Carriage House. Way-finding signage and greeters will be available for guidance.

$20; $10 students. Purchase tickets by Nov. 2 at thepropylaeum.org or by calling (317) 638-7881 x3.
