In collaboration with the Smithsonian, the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is proud to host Dr. Theodore S. Gonzalves for a free evening exploring Asian Pacific American history and culture on Thursday, Jan. 23 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Asian Americans are the fastest-growing group in the United States and include approximately 50 distinct ethnic groups, but their stories and experiences have often been sidelined or stereotyped.
Through his book, Smithsonian Asian Pacific American History, Art, and Culture in 101 Objects, Dr. Gonzalves will dive deep into the rich history and powerful stories of this diverse community in the Midwest and across the United States. Book signings will be available at the end of the event.
Theodore S. Gonzalves, Ph.D., is a scholar of comparative cultural studies. He has taught in the United States, Spain and the Philippines. Dr. Gonzalves previously served as interim director of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and is currently a curator at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
