“Hair is beauty. Hair is emotion. Hair is our heritage. Hair tells us who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.” Octavia Spencer as Sarah Breedlove, a.k.a. Madam C.J. Walker, in Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker (Netflix Original Series)

Join the conversation as we explore the history of hair care and hair styles, the politics surrounding hair, and the influence and impact of Madam C.J. Walker on the hair industry today. Walk away with more understanding of the facts and myths of hair care and the historical and current politics of style.

Presented by Susan Hall Dotson, Coordinator of African American History at the Indiana Historical Society, with Ladosha Wright of Reverence Team Design and author of What They Don’t Tell You at the Hair Salon and Curly Hair Adventures, and Kent State University’s Associate Professor of Fashion Dr. Tameka Ellington.

Presented by Junior League of Indianapolis and A’Lelia Bundles.
