NARRATOR: This Indiana Bicentennial minute is made possible by the Indiana Historical Society and the law firm of Krieg DeVault.

Video of Indiana’s farms are shown.

PAULEY: Indiana knows farming. The nation’s fifth largest producer of corn, soybeans and hogs. Number 4 in eggs. The second largest grower of tomatoes and popcorn. Number 2 in ice cream production and number 1 in ducks, 20 million of the quackers annually. There are 60,000 farms in Indiana, over 14 million acres. All told Indiana is in the top ten farm States, and Hoosiers have been at the forefront of agricultural innovation.

Videos of farmers hard at work on their farms, riding farming machines and taking care of animals are shown, then an older commercial of Orville Redenbacher is shown.

PAULEY: Orville Redenbacher popped out of Brazil to become the popcorn king and in 1858, James Oliver of South Bend chilled the steel as he manufactured a plow that stayed sharper, was less brittle and changed farming across the country. I’m Jane Pauley.
