Let's get started

Resources

Inspire Indiana
Search the Indiana’s Virtual Library. An exceptional resource through the public library system is the Student Research Center. Also of notable use to students is the Indiana Newspaper Holdings Guide for the Indiana State Library.

Indiana Historical Society
Search the William H. Smith Memorial Library collections catalog and digital image collections for manuscripts, printed collections and digital images relating to Indiana and Old Northwest history. Notable pages for students include the Library and Archives and Library Catalog pages.

Local History Contacts
Check out this resource compiled by Local History Services at the Indiana Historical Society which lists local contacts and research institutions around the state. Also see the statewide or specialized historical organizations page.

Indiana Archives, Museums and Historical Societies
This list is hosted by National History Day and includes a long list of Indiana archives, museums, historical societies and other research institutions.

Library of Congress
The official library of the United States Congress collects various media types relating to topics in the United States and around the world as well as the copyright agency for the United States.

National Archives and Records Administration
Research documents related to the history of the United States. The National Archives keeps records covering a wide range of national historical topics. Search online with the ARC.

TIP: Do secondary research first. General books about a topic will lead you to more specific books and primary sources on your topic!
