VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES | ||||||||||
| The Indiana Historical Society welcomes those who would like to add their talents to the Society. We offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities that are mutually beneficial to the Society and the volunteer. Flexible day, evening and weekend assignments are available for individuals, groups, families and teens. Below are the current volunteer opportunities that are available.
Date and Time: Long-term position. During public hours Wednesdays through Saturdays and at after-hours special events. Flexible schedules. Duties: Welcome and direct pre-registered student and groups as they visit the Investigation Stations, History Lab, You are There experience and other areas of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center.
Facilitator’s Assistant Date and Time: Long-term position. During public hours Wednesdays through Saturdays and at after-hours special events. Flexible schedules. Duties: Welcome guests to INvestigation Station and History Lab activity areas. Assist the area’s facilitators with implementation of activities and demonstrations to guide and enhance the guest’s experience. The facilitator’s assistant will present information in an effective and engaging manner to help the guest understand the basic principles of historic research and conservation techniques.
Experience Attendant Date and Time: Long-term position. During public hours Wednesdays through Saturdays and at after-hours special events. Flexible schedules. Duties: Welcome guests to History Lab, Destination Indiana and other activity areas requiring timed-ticket entry. Assist guest entry to these areas by accepting tickets and greeting guests in the designated waiting area until their session is ready to begin.
You Are There Host Date and Time: Long-term position. During public hours Wednesdays through Saturdays and at after-hours special events. Flexible schedules. Duties: Welcome guests of the Indiana Historical Society to the You Are There (YAT) experience. Staff the YAT transition space and prepare guests for their visit to the interpretive space where they will meet actors/interpreters in a living history setting. Provide guests with the needed information and materials to make their visit more enjoyable and educational.
Special Event Volunteer Date and Time: Long-term position. Dates and times announced quarterly. Duties: Greet,
usher and provide assistance to visitors and staff at a variety of IHS
sponsored events and activities. Activities range from concerts to workshops
and educational programs.
