These exciting 60-minute programs meet
Indiana social studies standards and are available all year. We'll bring
history right to your door. Advance reservations are required. We recommend
a maximum of 50 students per session.
Fees: Effective Sept. 1, 2009, $75 per session (includes
materials), plus a mileage charge of $.50 per mile, round trip.

|

Learn about the diverse number of notable
people with ties to Indiana and play an exciting round of “Famous
Hoosiers Bingo.”

Madam
C.J. Walker
|
Discuss the life of famous black entrepreneur
Madam C.J. Walker and participate in a team activity where students
design their own hair-care product.

| Indiana and
the Civil War |
|
Investigate
key events in the Civil War, with an emphasis on Indiana’s
troop contributions, and study letters from Hoosier soldiers. |
| Civil Rights
in Indiana |
Examine the civil rights
movement in America and specifically Indiana. Students are divided
into teams to participate in a mock discrimination court case complete
with a judge and jury. |
| For
students in grades four through six: |
| Indiana Statehood
and Constitution |
Students will create
their own state constitution and bill of rights in this program
introducing the history of the beginning of our state. |
For
students in grades four through 12: |
| Communication
in World War II |
Take
a close look at two Hoosier journalists, reporter Ernie Pyle and
photographer John Bushemi, while probing the broader context of
the war. Students participate in a letter-writing activity and discuss
censorship during the war. |
