Student Programs at the Indiana History Center (Indianapolis)
These 60-minute student programs meet Indiana social studies standards and are available begining March 23, 2010. Advance reservations are required.
Fee: $2 per student; no fees for adult chaperones.

For students in grades four through 12:

Hands-On History

Delve into the IHS collections to find historical items like explorers' maps, French fur trade journals, Civil War letters, World War II photographs and diaries. The variety of interesting and original materials enhances personal investigation of these primary sources.


For students in grades four through eight:

Mapping Indiana

Analyze and interpret maps from the 1600s to the present and learn about the evolution of mapping - from paper to digital media and Geographic Information Systems. Enjoy activities emphasizing mapmakers' perspectives both past and present.


Frontier Indiana

Learn about life in Indiana from 1700 to 1800 with a fur trade simulation, explore treasures from the IHS collections and view a video presentation about Indiana during this turbulent period.


For students in grades six through eight:

Lincoln: Building an American Icon

Analyze political cartoons, prints and portraits to observe how Abraham Lincoln's image changed during his lifetime and after his assassination.
