    The Hoosier Centennial

The pageantry and spectacle surrounding Indiana's 1916 statehood centennial is showcased in this exhibit. This exhibit was part of the Indiana Historical Society's effort to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Indiana's statehood. The statewide centennial celebration in 1916 would prove to have a lasting effect on the state, establishing the first state parks, spurring the production of lavish historical pageants, and prompting steps toward an improved highway system. In the photo at right, President Woodrow Wilson and other dignitaries help Hoosiers celebrate the state's centennial in a parade down a festively decorated Indianapolis street.

Requires at least 12 feet by 12 feet of floor space.
